Third Update of this year's Competition.

Three more events have now been decided:-

The National Hurling League was won by Kilkenny. 22 Entrants had the correct answer for the reward of three points.

Next up, Ronnie O' Sullivan won the World Snooker Championship, so six points go to a total of twenty-nine entrants who got that one right.

On Saturday Wigan won the English FA Cup (Others). Big outsiders, so seven points were on offer with only 14 entrants getting it right and getting a big leap on the rest of the field in the process

Nobody got all three correct, so the big winner was Marty Cummins who won on the snooker and the FA Cup, the thirteen points propelling him to the top of the leaderboard.

Second Update of this year's Competition.

 

Our fourth event was settled over the weekend with Dublin winning the National Football League.

Eighty-two of the entrants had guessed this correctly so there's very little change to the leaderboard.

Next up is the National Hurling League next Sunday and we'll update again after that.

First Update of this year's Competition.

Three events have been decided already:-

Event 1 was predicting the amount of Irish Winners at Cheltenham. With a record fourteen winners, anyone who chose 'Other' was laughing, and forty-six entrants did for five points.
Event 2 was the US Masters. As ever, lots of entrants chose 'Other' for the golf and, with Adam Scott winning, it paid off for fifty-seven entrants, gaining four points for them.
Event 6 was the English Premier League which was wrapped up last night by Man. Utd much to the pleasure of the 98 entrants who predicted it and who picked up four points in the process.

All of which means that we have twenty-one entrants on the maximum 13 points to date.

Next up is the National Football League, the Final of which between Dublin and Tyrone will be on this Sunday.

Event 20 took place yesterday - the Cork Senior Hurling Champions are Sarsfields. This means that with Event 19 (Cork Senior Football) still to complete the Top 3 places are now set in stone!

No matter who wins Event 19, the Top3 will be:-

1st Place - Corkerys (friends of the Dwyers of Pulleen) - Winners of €200
2nd Place - Debbie Davison (McCarthy of Reenavaude) - Winner of €100
3rd Place - Michelle McCarthy of Cummeendaugh - Winner of €50

Ninth Update - 1st October


Event 17 was the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Champions which was won by Kilkenny (3 points) which forty-eight entrants predicted correctly.

Event 18 was the All-Ireland Senior Football Champions which only three people got right (Donegal, so 'Other - 8 points').

With most people backing Kilkenny and none of the leaders winning on Donegal the leaderboard is much as it was.

 

What it now means is this, though:-

If Sars win the hurling and Castlehaven the football - the winner will be Corkery, Debbie Davison will be second and Michelle McCarthy third.
If Sars win the hurling and a team other than Castlehaven the football - top three in order will be Corkery, Debbie Davison and Michelle McCarthy.
If Bishopstown win the hurling and 'Haven the football - top three in order will be Denis Mullins, Debbie Davison and Michelle McCarthy.
and
If Bishopstown win the hurling and a team other than 'Haven the football - top three in order will be Debbie Davison, Michelle McCarthy and James Healy.

Eighth Update - 12th September

Event 16 has now been decided but Event 17 is on hold.

Event 16 was the Beara Final and most people had Urhan down to win that including all the leaders so very little change at the top.

Event 17 is the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Champions which has yet to be decided, so no change there either as yet.

Next up is the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. We'll update you all again after that.

Event 15 now decided - the British Open Golf, which was won by Ernie Els (other). 33 people got five points each for predicting that correctly, but none of them were at the top of the leaderboard, so very little change there.

Event 13 - Munster Senior Hurling Champions. Correct answer was Tipperary (4 points - 46 correct predictions).

Fifth Update - 10th July

A busy week with four events decided, and changes galore at the top!

Event 10 - Men's Sinles Wimbledon Champion. Correct answer was Roger Federer (6 points - only 18 correct predictions)
Event 11 - Women's Singles Wimbledon Champion. Correct answer was Serena Williams (5 points - only 14 correct predictions)

Event 12 - Munster Senior Football Champions - Correct answer was Cork (4 points - 31 correct predictions)
Event 14 - Euro 2012 Cup Champions - Correct answer was Spain - 27 correct predictions).

Debbie Davison (nee McCarthy, Reenavaude) and her niece Michelle McCarthy were the only two entrants to get all four right, and have shot to the top of the leaderboard. Previous leaders Aislaing Cronin and Denis Mullins find themselves nine points back.

Next weekend sees the Munster Senior Hurling Final, and on the following weekend is the British Open Golf. After that it's GAA all the way.

Fourth Update - 22nd May

Two more events this weekend, and it's getting tighter at the top!

Event 8 - Winner of the Champions League. Correct answer was Chelsea (7 points).
Event 9 - Winner of the Heineken Cup. Correct answer was Leinster (4 points).

Only five people guessed Chelsea which just goes to show how awful and/or disliked they are (Davy Cronin!!!), so their win made very little difference to the leaderboard.

Twenty-seven entrants got the rugby right, though, including Aisling Cronin who draws level at the top with Dunga Mullins!

One more event over the weekend, but no change at the top:-

Event 6 - Winner of English Premier League. Correct answer was Man. City (4 points).

Only 26 predicted Man. City would win, which says a lot of for loyalty! All of the top five had gone for Man. Utd so it was a chance for the pack to catch up, and they did. It's a lot tighter up there now.

Next up is the Champions League and the Heineken Cup, both on this Saturday.

Second Update - 8th May

Three more events over the weekend:-

50 people predicted Kilkenny, 22 predicted Chelsea but only 13 predicted Ronnie O' Sullivan giving big gains to anyone who did.

One of them was Denis Mullins who also backed Kilkenny to win the League, which leaves him top. Aisling Cronin goes second, having also backed Kilkenny and Chelsea. early days yet, though, and there's a good chasing pack.

The Rugby World Cup Final brought our 2011 Competition to a close and, with New Zealand winning, the three winners are comfirmed as:-

 

1st - John Wallace - Wins €200

2nd - Damien McCarthy - Wins €100

3rd - Darragh Darb O'Sullivan - Wins €50

 

Congrats to all three, and thanks to everyone for playing. After the lotto, it's the best way we have of paying the bills and keeping the club afloat.

Two more events have been decided. UCC (Others - 10pts) won the Cork Senior Football Championship, and Sebastian Vettel won the Formula 1 World Championship (4pts).

 

24 people got the football right, including front-runners Damian McCarthy and the O' Sullivan Con family.

51 people got the Formula 1 right, the fourth-highest favourite so far.

 

With only the Rugby World Cup to be decided, this is what it means:-

 

If France win, the winners will be (1st) Iain Seer, (2nd) Damian McCarthy, and (3rd) Mary Dwyer

If New Zealand win, it'll be (1st) John Wallace, (2nd) Damian McCarthy, and (3rd) Darragh Darb.

Event 19 - Carrigtwohill won the Cork Senior Hurling Championship (Others - 9pts)

Big scoring, especially as only 15 people predicted 'Others'. Among them were Darragh Darb O' Sullivan, who takes over at the top, and last year's runner-up Damien McCarthy, who jumps to sixth.

Three more events have been decided:-

 

Event 12 - Urhan won the Beara Final
Event 16 - Dublin won (or Kerry lost, whatever way you prefer to put it!) the Football All-Ireland
Event 17 - Colm Cooper ended up top scorer

82 people predicted Urhan to win, 23 predicted Dublin, and 12 predicted Cooper, but only one contestant predicted all three - well done JJ Darb O' Sullivan. That pushes JJ up to 12th.

 

At the top, Julian and Simon Harrison take over from the Cons of Ahabrook, who slip to fourth.

No sign of our Tipp man, The Bull Maher. Damien had donated any winnings he might have got to our youth set-up, fair play to him. Typical - the one time you don't mind Tipp winning and they make a hames of it!

The Beara Final might not have been decided yet, but two other events have:-

 

Event 14 - All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship - (Kilkenny - 3pts), and
Event 15 - Top scorer in same - (Other - 12pts) (Paul Ryan of Dublin with 2-47)

 

There were 41 correct predictions for both, and it's all change at the top as Tipp man Damien Maher slips. He was convinced his home county would win (not like the Tipp lads to be cocky, huh?).
