Urhan Dominant In Beara Final at Casletownbere
by Derry Farr, Evening Echo

The final scoreline didn't lie at the end of Saturday's one-sided Beara JAFC final in Castletownbere.

Already 3-07 to 0-5 clear at the break the winners had tacked on 1-2 by the 35th minute and the Glen's dream of causing a surprise had been well and truly blown away.

The first chink in their armour was exposed by a well taken Martin McCarthy goal followed by two points in a row from the prolific Martin O' Neill, coming all too easily against the sluggish defence.

Thereafter they were opened at will by an eager Urhan attack led by Concubhar harrington that fed on a liberal supply from a strong midfield sector. while wingers Martin McCarthy along with Seán O' Sullivan chipped in with some neatly taken scores, a lot of the havoc was caused by the Urhan inside line where young Philip O' Shea was a revelation at full-forward. Scoring came all too easy for corner men Vinny Lehane and Martin O' Neill.

Concubhar Harrington took a pass from Lehane to side-foot home the winner's second goal before a brief Glen uprising produced points from Shane McCarthy and Seán McCarthy to end a 20 minute scoring drought. Approaching the interval Urhan reacted with a third goal, courtesy of Vinny Lehane and with an 11 point halftime advantage they were never going to be caught.

Just in case, Seán O' Sullivan and Philip O' Shea added quick goals on the resumption that left them in an unassailable position. While the Glen, particularly Shane McCarthy. James Horgan, Ciarán McElhinney and Danny Galvin continued to fight the good fight there was no stopping an Urhan team's march to victory which was built on excellent team work.

More to come....
