A much-improved Urhan performance in Ahiohill today wasn't enough to bring home the points. St. Oliver Plunkett's 1-10 Urhan 1-07.

After two disappointing performances in succession, it was a determined Urhan who took the field in Ahiohill today, and they contested every ball from the off.

The first half was hard-fought and very even, Urhan tending to win their own kick-outs while Plunketts won the vast majority of theirs. It was Plunketts who found their range first, and with Urhan kicking a few wides the home team led by 0-03 to 0-0 after ten minutes. Brian Healy hit a fine point coming in from the right wing to get Urhan on the board, but it was defences on top for a period thereafter.

Urhan continued to struggle in the scoring stakes against the wind, belying some good football. A re-arrangement was needed after Ian O' Sullivan was forced off with an ankle injury, but Urhan adjusted well. Plunketts meanwhile managed to add two more before David McCarthy hit a fine point to make it 0-05 to 0-02 at the break.

Urhan suffered two further blows at the beginning of the second half: Kieran O' Sullivan failed to re-emerge from the break as a result of a hamstring tweak, and the further re-arranged backline shipped a goal. A Plunkett's point followed, giving the scoreboard a distorted look, but Urhan responded well. A fine Urhan move through brothers James, Brian and Dec Healy led to a shot on goal by the latter. The saved shot spilled to Davy McCarthy who soccered home. A Dec Healy free cancelled out a Plunketts point and Urhan were chasing hard. 1-07 to 1-03.

Plunketts added another before Urhan re-applied the pressure. Chasing and tacking hard all over the pitch, and supporting well, Urhan were creating chances and Mikey Shea, who excelled at centre-back, broke forward to finish another fine move with an excellent point. 1-08 to 1-04 with ten to play.

The home team tacked on a free, only to see it cancelled out by a fine Martin O' Neill point from wide on the left. Plunketts added another free, responded to again by a Dec Healy free. It was mostly Urhan at this stage as they sent waves of attacks onto the valiant Plunketts rearguard. Urhan kept the pressure on, aided in no small part by fine displays by their younger players, but could only add one more point to leave the final score 1-10 to 1-07.
