On a breezy day, scores proved hard to come by, and it was Urhan who struck first courtesy of a Declan Healy free on four minutes. Glengarriff levelled from play before Concubhar Harrington worked a fine one-two with James Healy and smartly goaled the return pass, shooting low to the goalkeeper's right at the near post.

Glengarriff replied with a point from play but a brace from Concubhar Harrington put Urhan four clear. Urhan's impressive defence held Glen at bay for the next period with some resolute and disciplined defence. Glengarriff registered a free as the short whistle approached only for David McCarthy to cancel it out and leave Urhan up 1-04 to 0-03 at the break, and all to play for.

Playing with the wind now, Glengarriff came immediately with a long-range point. From here, Urhan took over at centrefield, with both of the middlemen making telling contributions and Urhan looking lively on the breaks. A platform of possession for the third quarter helped Urhan stretch their lead, first through a fine Concubhar Harrington point, and then through a well-worked goal, the ball moving quickly from Declan Healy to Ciarán O' Sullivan to David McCarthy who soccered home to leave it 2-05 to 0-4. Declan Healy added a fine point from play to establish an eight point lead and Glengarriff had it all to do.

Back they came, however, through a long range effort from play and another fine point from the half-back line. The game then entered a scrappy period with both sides wasting some good chances, Urhan being the more wasteful of the two with the lion's share of possession. Brothers James and Brian Healy combined well to win a kick-out as time began to run out, the latter fed the third brother, Declan who finished well to stretch the lead back out to seven.

Urhan's backs, now aided by fresh legs from the bench, continued to be miserly and there was to be no way back for Glengarriff. In added time, Finbarr Dwyer ran through to point, and the whistle sounded to leave Urhan victors on the day, with two valuable points secured. Urhan 2-08 Glengarriff 0-06.

Urhan now go into Game 2 of the Beara Junior Championship on the 7th August. Garnish and Glengarriff will play in Game 3 on the 28th August.
