Urhan’s Junior A’s put a poor first half to the back of their minds and emerged victorious in Durrus last Sunday on a scoreline of 1-07 to 0-09 in this Beara-Carbery League tie.

Urhan wasted plentiful possession and centrefield dominance in the first half with a mixture of passing errors and poor shooting. A Vinny Lehane free, won by himself, was Urhan’s only contribution to the scoreboard at half-time, and Muintir Bhaire were fully worthy of their five points.

Half-time Muintir Bhaire 0-05 Urhan 0-01

Declan Healy pointed a free immediately upon the restart after Vinny Lehane was fouled again as Urhan now played with a strong wind. Muintir Bhaire parried with a free of their own and a fine effort from play as ten second-half minutes elapsed. But Urhan were now well settled to their task and the scores began to come.

Vinny Lehane pointed another free after being fouled again and immediately Martin McCarthy pointed when set up by brother, David. Three minutes later swift passing freed Declan O’ Neill who brushed of two challenges and raced goalwards before driving to the keeper’s right for a superb goal. Urhan led 0-05 to 0-07.

On their home patch, Muintir Bhaire were never going to leave it at that, and with Urhan failing to notch further scores from good possession, the home team finally levelled it from a free with five to go. The lead came two minutes later from another free and Urhan were behind again.

As added time commenced Urhan still trailed but their dominance at centrefield was still intact. From there came yet another attack, and this time a free. Sean O’ Sullivan slotted coolly for the equaliser.

Two further minutes elapsed and, with a draw looking likely, Finbarr Dwyer took possession, found Martin McCarthy in space, who passed smoothly out right to the flying Martin O’ Neill, who steadied himself before slotting over what would be the winning point. The whistle went with the resulting kickout.
