Our Junior B's registered a 3-12 to 0-07 league win over Bere Island in Páirc na hAoraí yesterday
A much-improved Urhan fared better than in their previous outing against Glengarriff, helped admittedly by the fact that Bere Island were understrength.
Urhan started brightly and had launched a few attacks before clocking their first score after five minutes, a smartly-taken Kieran O' Neill point. A minute later a long ball in to the Bere Island rearguard confused backs and goalkeeper alike and was turned in for an own-goal, and Urhan had built up a nice early lead.
With Enda Lowney and Sean Daly doing very well against Bere Island's talented centrefield, and the Urhan half-back line in control, the home side had a steady platform to build upon for almost the entire first half. Urhan's dominant full-forward line capitalised clinically. Sean O' Sullivan and Dec Healy pointed one apiece before Bere Island got on the scoreboard on fifteen minutes to make it 1-03 to 0-01. Dec O' Neill joined in with a lovely point on eighteen, Sean O' Sullivan pointed well from a free on twenty-two, Enda Lowney chipped in from centrefield, and one from play from Sean O' Sullivan and a further one from a free made it 1-08 to 0-01 at the end of a fine first half.
Not surprisingly the second half saw a Bere Island fightback. In a tight third quarter Dec Neill and Dec Healy, with a goal and a point, added Urhan scores, only for the Island to strike back immediately on each occasion. With Sean Dwyer, who also enjoyed a fine first half, now to the fore around the middle eight, Urhan started to get on top again.
Dec Healy pointed a free on forty-eight. The Island struck again to make it 2-11 to 0-05. This was the visitors' best period of the game but it was interrupted on fifty-three minutes by a low long shot from John Paul Sheehan which found its way to the far left corner of the School End net. Kevin Hartnett flicked the point of the game off the outside of his right boot from a tight angle on the right three minutes later.
Bere Island contributed two fine points thereafter to finish the scoring on what was an enjoyable, open game.
The result leaves our Junior B's on four points at the completion of their league campaign. As Glengarriff, Adrigole and Town having two games each in hand, it looks highly unlikely that the League final can be reached. Nonetheless, this result will give solace ahead of the championship.Up-To-Date League Table
