Our Minors had a big win in Goleen tonight, coming home with a 6-16 to 1-09 victory. Well done to all concerned.

Urhan minors take home the honours after long trip to Goleen.

D.J. O Sullivan and Paul Hanley were well pleased with their charges on their performance against Mizen Rovers in the Minor West Cork League in Goleen last Thursday. Urhan were short staffed on the evening with the bare 12 players but the lads played as a committed team and put in an outstanding game.

Declan O Neill started the scoring with a point from a free and Mizen Rovers responded with a well taken point after winning their own kick-out. Conor Lowney put one over for Urhan and again the home team replied. Conor pointed again and then Andrew O Neill started his domination of midfield and winning the kick-out and with a move involving Kevin Hanley, Andrew kicked a fine point, while this was Andrew’s only score, he made a huge contribution to the teams overall performance, continually feeding fine ball to the forwards.

Conor Lowney made his first attempt on goal but was denied by a fine save from the Mizen goalie who pushed it over the bar. Kevin Hanley tapped over another point from a free  after a  foul on Kevin Hartnett. The goalie made three more saves before the action switched to the other end with the Mizen forwards piling on the pressure just before half time but goalie Patrick Sheehan and his backs mopped up the pressure and it ended Urhan 10pts to Mizen Rovers 5pts at half time.

The second half was a story of goal after goal…with the third of the goals coming as a result of a great run by Seamus Lyons making his debut for Urhan Minors, he took a pass from Kevin Hanley and passed it forward to Conor Lowney who despite the best efforts of the goalie found the net. Urhan had four  goals  before  Mizen were to hit the net for the first time making it 4 -15 to 1 -6.  Great credit must go to the Mizen players who despite the rising Urhan tide never gave up and were denied many  scores by the excellent Urhan backs and half backs, David Cronin, Cormac Shea and  Urhan captain Dominic Doellken kept the ball in Urhan possession and showed game reading and character well beyond their years. They were backed up by Niall Dwyer and Anthony O Shea who provided a solid defence blocking down and denying the Mizen inside line any space.

Mizen were still trying hard up to the last minute and threw everything at Urhan and finished the game on the attack with the last point scored. It finished Urhan 6 -16 to Mizen Rovers 1 – 9.

Urhan team; Patrick Sheehan, Anthony Shea, Niall Dwyer, Dominic Doellken, Cormac Shea, David Cronin, Andrew O Neill, Seamus Lyons, Declan O Neill, Kevin Hartnett, Conor Lowney and Kevin Hanley.
