A fine first half laid the foundation in Droum yesterday for Urhan's Under-14's to secure the Beara Championship for 2013.
Castletownbere started very well getting the first point this was answered by a Jamie O Neill point and quickly followed by a goal from Luke O Sullivan. Castletownbere fought back with a fine goal and at 12 minutes it was level at 1 -2 apiece.
A purple patch followed for Urhan with points from Cathal O Sullivan, Jamie O Neill, and Ciaran O Sullivan, then the very effective Cathal O Sullivan found the net and Jamie O Neill followed up with another cracker of a goal with-in two minutes. Urhan captain Paudie O Leary had been denied the green flag on a number of occasions by the hardworking Castletown defence but he tapped over a point for the last score of the first half.
HT score Urhan 3-8 Castletownbere 1-2.
To their credit Castletownbere came back into the game with a goal in the early minutes of the second half but Cathal O Sullivan kept up an unrelenting attack on the Castletownbere backs, he was ably assisted by Jamie O Neill for the first of his six points in the second half and substitute Kevin Dwyer tacked on a point.
The Urhan defence showed courage and determination far beyond their years, Conor O Sullivan kept a cool head and Eamon O Shea was in the right place at the right time throughout the game. Cousins Shane Elphick and Daniel Elphick were a very reassuring presence for goalie Gerard Dunne.
It was a very happy Paudie O Leary who collected the Ger Batt O Sullivan Cup from John Gerard Lowney, Chairman of Beara Coiste na nÓg.
Well done, lads!
